Transform the future of reservoirs and water security

Global Sediment Challenge

Sediment Challenges

Sediment trapped behind dams is quietly shrinking the world’s water storage, threatening drinking water, irrigation, flood control, and hydropower. By 2050, global storage loss is expected to reach roughly 23–28%. The sediment accumulation in about 5,000 large EU and UK reservoirs exceeds 1 billion m³, and its removal using mechanical methods (primarily drawdown/hydraulic dredging) is estimated to cost about 5–8 billion EUR/year (Panagos et al., 2024). Sedimentation is not just a maintenance chore — we risk catastrophic failures and irreversible loss of water storage for billions of people if we do not act immediately. Industry associations have emphasised that “dredging and flushing alone are financially and technically unsustainable, and that new approaches to sediment management are needed in the energy transition.”

CHATTIGR's Solutions

Our Solutions

We develop innovative, energy-efficient, eco-friendly, non-blocking fluid dynamics technology to enable upstream sediment removal, minimize water loss, reduce ecological impact, and adapt to climate extremes. Our systems integrate smart digital tools, including IoT, AI, and digital twins, to deliver enhanced performance.

Benefits for All

Benefits for All

Our technology aims to help secure a dependable water supply. Hydropower plants benefit from significantly lower maintenance costs and improved water storage, ensuring consistent, reliable power generation to meet energy demands. Environmental and aqua-animal protection are strengthened, and climate resilience is enhanced, fostering sustainable, thriving local ecosystems for all to enjoy.
